Day 1 in Manchester NH RHoKed!

Published by Small Dog Elec...

This is the first time RHoK has hit Manchester, NH and we weren't sure what to expect.  The doors at Gigunda opened early Saturday morning and the aroma of coffee and fresh bagels seemed to draw in hackers one by one until we had a nice core group of 10.  New Hampshire Public Radio did a great job promoting our event on Virginia Prescott's show, Word of Mouth on Thursday.  We were thrilled that John Forcucci heard about us and decided to submit a great problem on a weather and alart notification app.  The problem was so exciting that after discussing the list of problems for the day the entire group decided they wanted to collaborate on NHPR's weather app!

John worked with the team, which consisted of developers, sysadmins, and "idea people".  After coming up with a core concept and fleshing out some ideas they split into two groups: coders and user experience scenarios.  Soon, the coders split between database/server and client and all groups continued to chat back and forth sharing ideas on Google Docs and GitHub.

We were stoked to enjoy breaking for lunch with some delicious donated Portland Pie pizza, and by the time dinner arrive the group scarfed down burritos and salad from Dos Amigos.  Finally, after 14 hours of work, the group called it quits for the night.  We're thrilled with the progress made so far and are looking forward to getting things rolling again this morning!
