Problem Statements:
Road Accidents and Blood Requirements
When a road accident happens, requirements for blood shoots up. However, not knowing the blood group of victims can cost lives. Normally, the victim would have to be taken for a blood test before being attended to. Shortening the time between accident and initiating a blood transfusion can make the difference between life and death.
A system that would enable public to move around with medical cards encoded with their DNA and Blood Group. Scanning the card would instantly reveal the blood group, and treatment can be immediately commenced.
Managing Resource Based Conflicts
Case in point: Cattle rustling conflicts in Isiolo. An application that builds on SMS technology in helping form peace committees. Early warning posts manned by peace committes is analyzed by the system. When a certain threshold is reached, the system should alert all involved to curb cattle rustling incidents.
Structural Collapse
W hen a building collapses, there's always a need to know the people who were in the building when it happened. A software application that can be used to log entries into and exits from the building can help capture this information. During a structural collapse, based on the information captured, the system should be able to calculate resource requirements, alert rescue organizations, coordinate the rescue process. The capture of entries and exits, resource requirements determination and alerting of rescue organizations should happen in real time, and should make use of SMS.
Disaster Data Management
An application that can be used to capture disaster risk management data, allows for updates or revisions, provide a means for analyzing this data, have an efficient and flexible dissemination sub-system, and manage safe storage of raw and analyzed data.
Disaster Reporting
During times of disasters, there are always so many people and organizations willing to help. A case in point is the famine in the horn of africa region to which so many people and organization donated resources to. Also, "Kenyans for Kenya" initiative that saw very many people come to the rescue of fellow countrymen. A software application that can be used to capture data and manage operations these times. At the end of the initiative, it should be possible to generate generalized anm d customized reports. These reports can be posted for public viewing and commenting or generated and sent for specific donors.
Disaster Risk Reduction Framework
Use a GIS-based technology to gather information a cross the country. The collection of the data should take into account the prevailing circumstances. The system should incorporate some benchmarks that can be used to automatically generate alerts when a disaster incident is imminent. As times and circumstances change, the system should be able to adapt accordingly.
