First, pizza is not the only food group. RHOK NYC lost its venue a little over a week ago. We could have just not run an event, but lots of wonderful people across the city stepped in to help. NYhackrs offered encouragement; Google offered people and projects; the NY Law School, UNICEF and others offered alternative venues. But with only a week and our main organiser suddenly out of the country, the offer we took was from the Farm Bill open data organisers: they opened up their own hackathon to RHOK refugees and have given us space, comfort and a lot of training about small farms and food legislation.
So we have about 12-20 people in here working on several projects (many are helping with farm projects and people who've never seen a hackathon before) with two larger groups: one working on improvements to Person Finder, and one worknig with Oxfam USA to show the effects of the US Farm Bill legislation on small farmers across the developing world. The place is buzzing (and not just because of the gourmet coffee - hey, there are definite benefits to sharing a space with foodies!), and Ed has brought toys...
