RHoK Global December 2011

RHoK is coming back to Trento this December!

The event will be hosted by Fondazione Bruno Kessler and the University of Trento on Dec. 3-4.

The fourth global Random Hacks of Kindness event will bring big change. As announced at our last global event in June, RHoK has broadened its scope beyond its origins in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) to include all development sectors.

The global water community is coming together for a Water Hackathon in 10 cities this October, and efforts to hack autism with touch technology are already underway.

ICT4G unit is again organizing the event that will take place in FBK on December 3-4. Subject matter experts are invited to submit problems and technologists, coders, hackers and people interested are all invited to participate to the event.

RHoK Trento update

RHoK at Trento is hosted by the ICT4G group of Fondazione Bruno Kessler and supported by the University of Trento and Informatici Senza Frontiere. Inspired by the problems, 46 people showed up to hack for humanity, exceeding the initial expectations! A remote team, composed of five very motivated people is collaborating from Maputo, Mozambique.

The first part of saturday was spent forming teams and start hacking the problems up. Nine problems are currently being worked on: Seed Swap App, Peer learning & peer networking for pineapple farmers, Smart urban planning, Assessing (and aggregating) beehive health, Disease / Sickness Reporting System (DSRS), Happy Bird Mobile App, Improving public transportation reliability to encourage people reduce their carbon footprint, Lost and Found.

The hackers were fueled by caffeine, snacks, and delicatessen offered by the hosts. Saturday night all the hackers discussed their problems over a pizza we got from a local restaurant ... one team kept hacking till 5am this morning!
