WaterHackathon Kampala will take place on October 22 and 23, 2011 at Makerere University in Kampala.
The WaterHackathon is progressing extremely well with the teams zeroing on 7 projects. The projects are varied in nature. The Waterhackathon was challenging in its very nature. Not many problems could be associated with the water for a hackathon event. Yesterday through the brainstorming and problem definition stage 17projects were identified but we finally zeroed on 7projects.
1. Water Crusaders; developing a game to educate people about the different water related issues
2. Loopa...a luganda word meaning report water pollution related app. The App intend to enable people report pollution incidences in a community
3. DEWS: Disaster Environment Water Sanitation, an alert system that collects information from individuals. It provides an opportunity for the community to report via crowd sourcing.
4. Map the Crap: The App maps latrines and picks a few variables like depth of the latrine, population using the latrine. This information should be used to estimate the duration it takes to fill or require the services of the cesspool emptier
5. WASH Fundraiser an app that is will crowd source funds for the WASH initiatives in Uganda.
6. Maazi Trends; this App enables users to analyse the consumption trends for a given user.
7. Water Dash Board; A crowd Sourcing App that enables the consumer to report water related problems and should be to identify the nearest technician. This is an Android enabled app.
