The Gambia

Some of the folks at the National Meteorology department of the Gambia need to calculate Dew Point Temperature, Vapor Pressure and Relative Humidity. They had previously been using a piece of equipment called a Humidity Slide Rule to accomplish this task. The Humidity Slide Rules that they have now are old, no longer readable and not easily distributable. They contacted the manufacturer and were told that the Humidity Slide Rules are now out of production.

Armed with a Subject Matter Expert and a couple of pages of scientific formulas, the RHoK Gambia team plans to implement the humidity slide functionality in software.

The ideal solution would be easy to copy across multiple computers and will have the least dependencies possible [no db required, no internet required, no java/ruby/etc required]

Recommended Solutions:
Extra Credit:

Make this functionality accessible via SMS

  • User composes an SMS message with the dry and wet bulb thermometer readings and sends to specified number
  • Code/server behind the number does the magic and replies the Dew Point Temperature, Vapor Pressure and Relative Humidity values to the sender
Similar Projects and Resources:

Some of these calculators seem to already be online, but there seems to be no one page where the calculation of Dew Point Temperature, Vapor Pressure and Relative Humidity is done.
