Service Delivery in the Water and Sanitation Sector

Revision #3ForkRecommend a Solution
Bangalore

Water supply and sanitation services delivery across cities is significantly hindered due to the inadequacy/nonavailability of information on the service providers.

The desired application should be able to access the GIS/GPS coordinates of the users and provide them the details of service providers of a particular water and sanitation service in their areas.

Recommended Solutions:
Example:

For example, in many cities, consumers place orders for drinking water (water cans) on phone. There are several local players, and the water agency makes a note of the order, mostly in a notebook, making it difficult to project data on water consumption.

An SMS based mobile service that sends SMSs in a specific format will ensure that a history of such an order is maintained. This would also ensure that the cost of ordering water cans is reduced, while the distributor can use the information for better service delivery.

Qualitative Impact:
The benefits to the distributor are: Copies SMSs and stores them in the application for statistics/ future data reference Tracks deliveries and manages them better Maintains individual history Builds monthly sales projections / business statistics Deletes old SMSs and maintains records only on the application The benefits to the consumer are: Selects the number of cans she/he needs and presses the submit button Sends out the SMS in a particular format Edits supplier’s contact information Maintains status check /delivery date/history of order
