This is an application that focusses completely on the first world. It address the problem of finding the nearest trash can when in a city or walking in the mountains. Thanks to a cooperation between the Belgian RHoK of December and Apps for Antwerp (a hackathon of the city of Antwerp) we will have all locations of public trash cans in Antwerp.
We will be able to use this dataset to create a prototype of the application. We could like to build it so it will be easy to add data of other cities/countries.
Qualitative Impact:
At the start this problem will be using data specific to the city of Antwerp but we hope to get our hands on datasets from other cities as well. We're in touch with the Open Knowledge Foundation to check if they have similar datasets in other places in the world.
Quantitative Impact:
The more cities join the app the more impact the app will get. It will keep the streets cleaner, lower the amount of trash that ends up in nature and hopefully help raising awareness to the problem of illegal dumping.
