A widget for Android devices, informing users about the air pollution level in Warsaw and displaying simple recommendations what to do about it (f.i. go out or stay at home).
Why we are working on this problem:
Warsaw and many others cities in Poland very often face the problem ofthe particulate pollution permissible levels being exceeded (PM 10,PM2,5). Particulate pollution first of all influences negatively healthof the children, the elderly, and of the people suffering from various respiratory system conditions and cardiovascular diseases. A simple information system operating through a website and mobile devices will allow all residents willing to take care of their own health, as well as of that of their family and friends, to avoid behavior patterns that could affect them negatively due to the high level of air pollution. Poland is still lacking such simple information systems that could provide advice on the current pollution level and recommended actions.
What we accomplished during the event:
We developed a widget for Android devices that can be downloaded and installed on mobile phones working under this operating system. It informs users about the current particle pollution level by displaying appropriate graphics on the phone screen. The system uses public data taken from the Regional Monitoring System of Air Quality.
